When the place where you were a VAP seven years ago and didn't get hired for a tenure-track job hits you up for donations, the experience is not unlike having your ex-who-married-someone-else hit you up for casual sex ...
... except, having had both of these experiences, I'm pretty sure I prefer the second one. Stay classy, fundraising department.

An apt comparison.
Haha. At least you'd get some pleasure from the second -- whether you said no or yes. Fundraising at colleges -- so evil.
In what other field would a former employer call to ask for a donation?
Amen. The fundraising thing is just so irritating. (The citizens of my state don't want to pay taxes for education, but somehow we employees are supposed to donate ever more? Gah!)
So irritating, indeed!
I don't actually mind being hit up for donations by my current employer, since they've made an ongoing commitment to me, and more money for them actually does make my life easier. Neither of these things is true of my former employer, however...
