About Me

- Heya. I teach Shakespeare, British lit, and some other stuff. I am an associate professor at a small public university in the South, here known as Misnomer U; I spent a year in a visiting position at a private liberal-arts college that I call New SLAC. I hold degrees from the Beloved Alma Mater (undergrad) and the University of Basketball (grad). This blog contains teaching anecdotes, occasional posts about whatever I'm reading, and random thoughts.

wait wait wait --- that sounds like a story, and I want to hear it!
You have me friended on LJ, right? I will do a long SAA post, which will include the story of my encounter with my successor at New SLAC. I realized quite early on the morning after that I shouldn't have posted this particular story to Blogger, as it is probably a shade too identifiable.
Wait, what if *I* want to hear the story?
Cursing the fact I wasn't checking my blogs during the conference!
Flavia -- Well, it's not very interesting, actually. The short version is that I ran into Successor at the reception, and she said some things that suggested she had experienced about as much jealousy-and-paranioa as I had about her. All of which may, potentially, say a lot more about my former colleagues than it does about either of us. Or maybe it just says that the outside-candidate-hired-in-preference-to-current-VAP situation is hugely awkward for both parties, not just for the VAP.
