Since I'm not on the market, I don't think my feeling of dread is the same as yours, but if it's any consolation, I feel dread, too. Only mine is of the "god, the semester hasn't even started yet, can't it wait?!" variety.
Heya. I teach Shakespeare, British lit, and some other stuff. I am an associate professor at a small public university in the South, here known as Misnomer U; I spent a year in a visiting position at a private liberal-arts college that I call New SLAC. I hold degrees from the Beloved Alma Mater (undergrad) and the University of Basketball (grad). This blog contains teaching anecdotes, occasional posts about whatever I'm reading, and random thoughts.

Oh, it's not purely job market dread, it's more like job market dread and impending semester dread and course evaluations dread all mixed up together.
I feel you on all three counts. Courage! (And it was nice meeting you; sorry we didn't get to chat at greater length!)
Nice meeting you, too! (And I'm really glad that at least one of the jobs I interviewed for and didn't get went to a good person!)
Well, I didn't apply for any jobs.
And it's my first day back to the office and email. Up to now I deleted 1104 mails (929 of them without having them opened before deleting them).
That should have been most of the accumulated emails.
I even answered some of them ... .
17 unread rss enttioes to deal with .
2 more mails to answer.
And then, I guess, I'll tend to call it a day.
I dreaded it a bit this morning.
But now I'm confident that I'll survive.
Wow, you actually refrain from checking your e-mail over break? I can usually go half a day before I start getting twitchy.
