They've just read a play in which Hal *tells* us he's playing a part, but they're still convinced that we see the "real" Henry in H5--that he's really going to war because he's angry about some tennis balls, for example. I'm never quite sure what to do with that.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17770950068958941330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164185959238733667.post-87057234306507949032008-11-18T16:34:00.000-08:002008-11-18T16:34:00.000-08:00Oh, wow, r, that sounds painful. I taught H5 recently for a class that encouraged the students to make connections between Shakespeare and modern stuff, and those papers were *so* not fun. Though at least there was a little variety that semester, because a couple of students also compared him to Prince Harry?

For what it's worth, I've never taught either Henry IV play, but I do point out Henry's hypocrisies in H5, and the students have fought me on it every time. And then write me papers that are, honestly, a little bit fangirly about how awesome Henry is, and how he just wants to be a common man and be loved for who he is...Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17770950068958941330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164185959238733667.post-31801515294654224312008-11-15T10:07:00.000-08:002008-11-15T10:07:00.000-08:00For Bush as Prince Hal:http://www.poppolitics.com/...For Bush as Prince Hal:

http://www.poppolitics.com/archives/2003/05/George-W-as-Henry-VAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
